Lisbon – Geometry of Light
Lisboa – Geometria da Luz
In this painting, I explore the way light transforms architecture and reshapes our perception of the city. Lisbon appears fragmented into geometric planes, where rooftops, facades and architectural volumes overlap in a visual construction that moves between reality and abstraction.
For my urban landscapes, I work primarily with brushes and wide brushes, gradually building the composition through successive layers of colour, transparency and structure. The vertical lines introduce rhythm and movement, while the overlapping planes suggest multiple readings of the same place.
The dominant presence of light, particularly through the golden tones that flow across the cityscape, seeks to convey Lisbon’s unique energy and the way the city reveals itself differently with every glance. Rather than depicting a specific location, the painting aims to capture an atmosphere shaped by memory, luminosity and identity.
