Between Pages and Silence
Entre Páginas e Silêncio
In this painting, I explore the intimacy of a moment when reading allows us to withdraw from the outside world. A woman sits quietly, absorbed in a red book, surrounded by an atmosphere of stillness and contemplation.
I worked primarily with a palette knife, building the figure through layers of impasto and textured paint. Geometric fragments subtly shift and repeat parts of the image, suggesting different moments coexisting within a single composition.
The restrained grey background highlights the warmth of her skin, the rhythm of her striped dress and the vivid red of the book.
Rather than simply portraying a woman reading, I wanted to evoke the private freedom of losing ourselves in a story, while time seems to stand still.
